Washi Eggs
I have been living in Japan for a while now and washi paper is EVERYWHERE.
You can go to special stores or even the 100 Yen store.
I love making these eggs, and as time goes on my eggs are getting better and better
You will need
Washi Paper
pencil
ruler
tape measure
wall paper paste
scissors
craft board opitional
Measure around the middle of egg. Add 1/2 cm to this measurement and mark the total on paper.
Measure around the egg, end to end. Take half of this measurement and mark on paper.
Cut the paper to correct size. You will get a rectangular shape.
Find the centre of the paper (short side.)then mark 1/2 cm above and below the centre line.
Then mark 1/2 cm along the top and the bottom of the long sides of the paper light mark joining the dots from top to bottom to make lines.
Draw two more lines on the paper, this time still along the long side of the paper but between the top of the paper and the mark just above the center line
Then Start cutting into the paper so it looks like in the picture
When all cut out, I find it easier to paste at least half of the paper.
Then I place the end of the paper on the end and start layering the paper and smoothing the paper over the ends. VERY slightly over lapping the paper.
I find I do one top, one bottom secion and smooth, then keep repeating.
When all the paper has been placed on the egg and all smooth. I poke two ends of a piece of ribbion into the egg and add extra paste. to hold the ribbon inside the egg.
leave the eggs to dry overnight.
Start lacquering the eggs next day, when eggs are COMPLETELY dry.
I lacquer one side of the egg at a time because of drying the eggs.
They can still be tacky to the touch if not left to completely dry.
I coat my eggs in about 4/5 coats lacquer
Add some extra lacquer near the top of the egg bt=y the ribbon to make sure the ribbon stays in places.
